"To love and serve our neighbors as ourselves."

Last week, we celebrated Veterans Day to honor and thank all those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country and keeping its people safe from harm. We thank God for their sacrifice on Veterans Day and always.

But, many U.S. veterans are in need of help—from housing to health to financial assistance—and Catholic Charities is committed to helping them in any way we can. We continue to work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide assistance to homeless veterans and their families. Our homeless shelter, the Martha & Mary House, provides shelter, support, safety, and hope until residents can secure financial stability and a stable place to live.

Under the roof of our Martha & Mary House, our caring case managers work with veterans on housing placement, job searches, and resume writing. We also collaborate with and provide transportation to local service agencies.

Many veterans also face emotional and mental hardships because of their sacrifices. Our counseling services provide a solution for veterans dealing with these troubles, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment issues, loss, or any of the wide range of challenges they may face. Our compassionate professionals provide the sensitivity and confidentiality that veterans are often in need of. No matter someone’s financial situation, we are here to help. We offer sliding fees based on income and will never turn away a veteran in need.

Veterans in need of our Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) may self-refer or be referred to us by another party. We assess each request individually and keep them in the strictest confidence.

Catholic Charities would not be able to serve our veterans without your help. Your gifts make a great difference; the Martha & Mary House, for example, was a much-needed project that could never have existed without the community’s generous financial support, and we will continue to need that support to maintain the shelter.

In whatever way you can, thank our veterans and reach out a helping hand to those who were willing to give their lives for yours. Read more about our homeless shelter and other services here.
